The Andean Blanket

Several years ago, Pastor Phil and his son Phillip went on a trekking adventure before his senior year in high school. It was the adventure of a lifetime! The pristine beauty of the Andes was beyond description. They were greatly challenged by the trek, but even more challenged by what they witnessed in the high mountain valleys. As they passed through dozens of small mountain villages and pueblos, there was not a gospel witness found in any of them. In fact, most had never even had a copy of the Bible in the village.

Pastor Phil and Phillip began praying that God would reveal to them how they might reach these never before reached people. The outcome was annual trips to the Callejon de Huaylas for Bible distribution.

The first team that went in 1999 was greatly moved by the thought of thousands of villages through the Andes Range that are without the gospel. Pastor Phil mentioned that he would love to “blanket the Andes with the Word of God,” and the Andean Blanket was born.

The five Andean countries–Columbia, Equador, Peru, Chile, and Bolivia–are the target. We want to go to each country during the first week of July with three teams to distribute Bibles. Each team has a target area.

This year the Trek will focus on the Black Mountain side of the Callejon in Peru. There will be rigorous trekking, abundant Bible distribution, and many opportunities to make a first contact with indigenous people groups.

Our prayer is to eventually see three teams go to each of the five countries and pass out 7,500 Bibles in Quechua and Spanish. Our goal is to give out one million Bibles to people who have never had a single copy. Hence, we are calling this The Andean Blanket.

You will not find a more challenging adventure. You will also not find a more pure form of evangelism. Will you consider getting involved?

First, we need people who are willing to go. You can preach the Word of God and give out the Bible to villages who have never had a copy.

Second, you can give to offset the expenses of purchasing the materials.

Third, you can blanket this mission in prayer, which is the most important ingredient to Spiritual success.
